Akindele beat Genevieve Nnaji, Lillian Bach to Win Best Actress

Funke Akindele, recently won two awards at the Zuma Film Festival in Abuja. She received a nomination for her role in the Tunde Kelani movie, MAAMi. Her movie, The Return of Jenifa was also nominated for the Highest Box Office Award.

Akindele beat the likes of Genevieve Nnaji and Lillian Bach to clinch the title.

Akindele received the award  for her role in ‘Maami’, the film produced by veteran cinematographer Tunde Kelani who  was himself awarded the ‘Best Director’. ‘Maami’ also won the award for ‘Best Nigerian Film.

Akindele worked in television before switching to cinema, becoming known for her starring role in the family-oriented Nigerian television show I Need to Know. Akindele's qualifications include an OND in Mass Communication from the Ogun State Polytechnic and a law degree from the University of Lagos
