Soldiers battle Boko Haram in Kaduna, 5 killed by gunmen in Kano


Rigasa community on the outskirts of Kaduna had a terrible night, as a gun battle between suspected terrorists and the military claimed the life of a soldier yesterday night (Sunday).
The gun battle, which lasted several hours in the troubled area, according to a source, happened around 8.00 p.m, when suspected terrorists started shooting at the soldiers.
OMG Nigeria gathered that, the armed soldiers, led by an officer, did not waste time as they returned fire. The soldiers also killed one of the terrorists while others escaped with injuries source said.
Spokesperson for the 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Kaduna, Colonel Sani K. Usman confirmed the incident in a phone conversation with newsmen.
Unknown gunmen in the area had earlier killed a traditional ruler and another policeman in the area and fled on motor bikes.
Meanwhile, pandemonium occurred at Tunkuntawa, on the Zoo Road on the outskirts of Kano, when gunmen allegedly opened fire on people playing cards and allegedly killed no fewer than five persons.
A report, however, said that three persons were killed, while another source hinted that five people lost their lives in the attack.
According to an eyewitness, the suspected Boko Haram members came on motorbikes to attacked people who were playing cards.
He further disclosed that immediately they arrived the scene, they started shooting sporadically into the air to scare away people who were at the vicinity.
The source added that as result of sporadic shooting, passer-by ran helter-skelter to avoid being hit by stray bullets.
He, however, hinted that no fewer than six people were shot by the gunmen, but five people were allegedly killed, while a person who sustained injury was rushed to hospital for treatment.
The source, however, disclosed that some minutes after the incident, security operatives were seen rushing to the scene of the incident, but could not confirmed whether arrests were made or not.
