You're the main man Fernando: Abramovich assures Torres he has a future at Chelsea
Roman Abramovich has given Fernando Torres a personal assurance over his Chelsea future.
Chelsea striker Torres is set to be made the main man next season as Didier Drogba prepares to go to Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua for one last mega pay-day.
And Torres could also get his own pay day, with his advisors due in London this week for talks and assurances about the £50m striker's future.
It is believed they asked for a renegotiation if Chelsea won the Champions League but it remains to be seen whether they will push for a pay rise.
But what is for sure is that Chelsea's hierarchy see Torres at the club next season even though they are set to go on a spending spree this summer.
Torres cast doubt over his future straight after the final as he told the Spanish media that he was fed-up and claimed promises had been broken after his nightmare spell at Stamford Bridge.
However, it is understood that Abramovich spoke to Torres during the celebrations and insisted that the club still had faith in him and had invested too much money just to give up on him now.
Torres clearly feels let down after nearly 18 months at Chelsea and the club may face a battle to convince him but his path may be clearer if Drogba goes to China.
That may not be a popular choice as Drogba finished the Champions League final a hero and yet Chelsea have been unwilling to give him a two-year contract and now are set to lose him for free.
Torres has struggled badly but showed glimpses of his best form towards the end of the season and that will convince Chelsea to try to resist any offers this summer with big-spending Paris Saint Germain and Russian superclub Anzhi interested..
