The Secretary of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), Senator Walid Jubril, has confirmed at the PDP’s secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday that former president, Olusegun Obasanjo turned in his resignation as Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Board of Trustees (BoT) and the resignation has been accepted.
The secretary made this known while speaking to reporters after the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting. He also pointed out, contrary to widely held speculations, that Obasanjo did attend the meeting. According to Jibril, the resignation was accepted at a board meeting in Abuja on Monday night.
However, the board is yet to decide on Obasanjo’s replacement. The senator says a decision on Obasanjo’s replacement would be taken only after the party had ratified its new constitution. In his words, “The BoT did not discuss Obasanjo’s replacement, but accepted his resignation. No one has been nominated or tipped to replace him for now.”
Meanwhile, the PDP Chairman, Dr. Bamanga Tukur, in a memo to the party’s NEC dated July 16, 2012, has recommended seven people as members of the committee. Those on the list were Mr. Femi Pedro( Chairman), Okey Ezenwa(South-East), Chidi Wiyoka(South-South), Tanimu Adamson(North-Central), Yakubu Shehu(North-West), Yusuf Jangwe(North-East) and Bola Doherty(South-West).
