Gunmen Bomb Federal Prison; Free Notorious Criminals

The federal maximum security prison in Oko, Edo state, was on Sunday attacked with explosives by heavily armed gunmen suspected to be agents of a notorious criminal gang.

The prison was attacked at about 1:40am with sophisticated weapons including dynamites. The attack was said to have led to the escape of some condemned inmates.

Eight inmates escaped from the prison custody following the attack. It was said that two out of the escaping inmates have been apprehended by security agents.

Sources say the gunmen attacked the prison in a bid to rescue their friends that have been condemned to death. Anti-riot policemen have been deployed to the facility.
