The Oyo State Police Command has begun investigations into the death of a 21-year-old woman, Tolu Esuola. Esuola, was found tied to her bed and burnt beyond recognition in Oyo, Oyo State.
Our correspondent learnt that neighbours were alerted to a fire incident at the residence of the victim at Akeetan Baale compound around 11pm on July 24.
Some neighbours, who pleaded anonymity, said the victim was found face-down with a cable wire tied around her wrists.
The state of her body raised suspicion in the area that her death was a murder. Esuola was said to be an employee of Momoh Hospital, Oyo.
“Her mother and other siblings travelled. Her father, Mr. Femi Esuola, was also away in Ogbomosho, where he works. We did not hear any scream that night. It is very strange,” a neighbour said.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the other tenants of the building were also not around on the day of the incident.
However, a man identified simply as Kunle, said to be the victim’s lover before their affair went awry, has been arrested in connection with the incident.
He is currently being held at the Homicide Section of Iyaganku Police Division, Ibadan.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Olabisi Clet-Ilobanafor, who confirmed the incident, said the suspect claimed he was at Minna, Niger State, when the incident took place.
“Our investigation will reveal if he is culpable or not. If the body was found burnt beyond recognition, how can anybody say it was found bound?” she said.
