Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State has vowed to ensure that the entire roads in the state are lit up at night before the end of his administration, saying “it will reduce the rate of road traffic accidents and improve the level of security in the state.”
Fashola who restated his commitment, Monday night, while dedicating the 7kilometre traffic light from Jibowu to Maryland, at a short ceremony held at the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, Anthony, noted that the completion of the projects has enabled lighting-up programme that spans critical parts of the State from Marina to Western Avenue through to Agege motor road to Oshodi axis of the state

The governor explained “the choice of Ikorodu Road for the light up was quite symbolic because of the strategic position, not only for the State but the country as a whole.
He also reeled out the impact of the light up stressing that it will improve the safety of drivers and pedestrians reduce accidents that are caused by poor visibility, to keep citizens safe in their vehicles from attacks of gunmen.”
According to him, “in the last year (2012), over 40 such streetlight projects were completed, adding that every road project now has a streetlight component when rehabilitation, reconstruction or upgrading is undertaken.”
Fashola added “the coming on stream of Mile 12 – Ikorodu town road rehabilitation programme will further extend the state’s effort to Ikorodu town.”
The governor further reiterated his administration’s commitment to realizing goals of develaopment through the provision of infrastructure.
While welcoming the Governor, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Dr. Femi Hamzat stated that the project is designed to operate on the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, lines always with support generators.
He urged the public to continue to support government by taking ownership of the various projects within their community so as to ensure its well-being.
He described the projects as public property requiring that all ensure its benefits are not cut short.
