In Kano, five persons were shot dead in three incidents in the metropolis related to the nefarious activities of the Boko Haram sect.
At the Sheka area of the Kano metropolis, persons suspected to be members of the sect shot dead two of their own in an apparent bid to avert leakages of their modus operandi.
An eyewitness account said that the killing occurred after residents of the area nabbed two suspected members of the sect.
The source added that before the two arrested suspects could be handed over to security operatives in the area, gunmen suspected to be members of the sect arrived from the blues and shot them.
At about the same period in Panshekara area of the metropolis, two women were killed by stray bullets.
The incident occurred after a shootout between members of the sect and security personnel at a checkpoint in the Panshekara roundabout.
At Zaria road, gunmen also shot dead an unidentified person in bizarre circumstances.
Spokesperson of the Joint Task Force (JTF), Lt. Ikedi Iweha, confirmed the killing of Boko Haram sect members in Sheka and that of the two women in Panshekara area.
Also, suspected Boko Haram sect members yesterday in Maiduguri killed a senior personnel of the State Security Service (SSS), Ibrahim Malgwi, at a barbing salon in Abaganaram area of the metropolis.
Meanwhile, in its continued manhunt for Boko Haram sect members in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, the Joint Task Force (JTF) yesterday killed two suspected members of the group, after a gun duel that lasted for about 30 minutes with the bandits at the Bayan quarters of Vital Foam Company.
The murder occurred a week after the police offered about N1 million for any person that furnishes it with information on the sect’s hideout or their armoury.
Director of the SSS in charge of Borno State, Ahmed Abdullahi, also confirmed the incident to The Guardian, but could not give details on how the victim was killed by the gunmen.
In Barkin Ladi and Bassa councils of Plateau State, about six persons including a mobile police officer were killed in two separate incidents.
An eyewitness said that trouble started at Miango village on Sunday evening when two youths armed with dangerous weapons at a festival started fighting and were later arrested by the police.
He added that the arrest of the two boys triggered violence as youths in the community went on rampage, “damaging cars and burned a police station and a magistrate court at the heart of the village and also leaving two police officers injured.”
The incident was confirmed by the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Samuel Dabai, who said that a police officer attached to the Special Task Force (STF) and deployed to restore law and order was killed.
He said the corpse of the policeman had been deposited at the Vom Christian Hospital while those injured were receiving treatment in the same hospital.
