Professor Ango
Abdullahi has said that Northern Nigeria has the capacity of standing
alone in terms of economy if the country is divided.
He stated this in a BBC Hausa programme discussing the clamour by some
for a Sovereign National Conference monitored yesterday in Abuja.
He was reacting
to the position of the Northern Elders Forum which said the North was
not afraid of any conferencing to determine the future of the country.
He said,
“Northern Nigeria is independent economically. Ordinarily, a poor
Northern farmer is the one responsible for feeding himself up till
today, and Northerners are the ones providing a great percentage of food
across the country. So, if we can go back into farming, we will not
have any problem.”
