A fire gutted parts of the official residence of Kaduna state governor, Mr. Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House this morning, injuring about 8 persons including two mobile policemen attached to him, Daily Trust can report.

Our correspondent who went there an hour after the fire was put off by the officials of the state fire service saw cleaners moving out burnt household items from the governor's residence.

It was gathered that the fire which started around 9.am from the photocopy wing of the residence torched the governor's bedroom, sitting room and some others. The fire only affected the interior parts of the house leaving the roof of the building intact.

Daily Trust gathered while trying to put off the fire before the arrival of the officials of the fire service, some staff of the state government house were injured. They were rushed to the government house's clinic.

When our correspondent visited the clinic, two mobile policemen and four staff of the government house were seen receiving treatment. Speaking to Daily Trust on his Hospital bed, one of injured said they were attracted to the governor's residence when they saw thick smoke coming out of it.

"The governor was rushed out from his room without wearing a cap. Many of us sustained injuries but Samaila who had a more serious injury has been rushed to Barau Dikko hospital," he said.

At the entrance of the clinic, our correspondent overheard a Permanent Secretary telling a commissioner the number of the casualty. He told the commissioner that 8 persons were injured.

Around 10.30 am, our correspondent saw officials of the State Emergency Management Agency( SEMA) led by the Executive Secretary, Mr. Ishaku Dogo Makama coming out of the house.

The Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Reuben Buhari confirmed the fire incident but denied the report that  eight persons were injured.

" It was caused by electrical fault as a result of power fluctuation. The fire was promptly put out by men of the kaduna state fire service and SEMA fire service.
Everything is now completely under control and the Governor is now continuing with his normal duties," he said.

According to him, the entire members of the governor  household including supporting staff are all fine. His Excellency wishes to thank all those who
collectively contributed toward putting out the fire and pray that such an incident does not occur again," he said.
