Kaduna State Police Command early today recovered bomb making materials and arms from a confessed terrorist.
The development comes barely 24 hours after alert youths in the Rigasa suburb of Kaduna captured two suspected terrorists and recovered arms and ammunition from them.
Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, M.J. Abubakar, spoke to the press today about the developments. “In our continued clampdown on criminal elements in the state, on 16/07/2012 at about 0200 hrs, a confessed terrorist led a team of detectives from our anti-robbery squad to Rafin-Guza area, where a hideout was raided,” said Mr. Abubakar. He detailed the seized exhibits:
Eight car alarm systems; one AK 47 magazine with twenty-seven rounds of live ammunition; two masks; two bags of chemical; four khaki uniforms; one jerry can of acid; a variety of cans of explosives, and a bomb making powder.
Mr. Abubakar also spoke about the suspected terrorists captured on Sunday morning in Rigasa area. “On 15/07/2012, at about 0930 hrs, following distress calls as sporadic gun shots were being fired at Hayin Taro-Taro, Rigasa area, a police patrol team raced to the scene,” said the commissioner. He added that the police team discovered that three gunmen on a motorcycle were attacking the residence of one Aliyu Abdulwahab, the district head of Afaka. As the residents of the area raised an alarm, the gunmen shot indiscriminately in a bid to escape. Mr. Abubakar stated the gunmen injured seven persons in the process.
“Police and army patrol teams assisted by the youths around went in hot pursuit and arrested two of them, Nura Abubakar and Mohammed Kabir at Mahuta village, with injuries,” the commissioner said. He disclosed that two AK 47 rifles, three magazines, ammunition and some improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were also recovered.
The commissioner stated that the seven injured victims were being treated at 44 Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna. Meanwhile the suspects and exhibits are in the custody of the Nigerian Army 1st Division in Kaduna.
