Reps shift resumption to Sept. 25

BY OKEY NDIRIBE

There are strong indications that the leadership of the House of Representatives may have extended the Green Chambers  resumption date to September 25.
Although no reason was given for the planned shift in resumption date, it was gathered that the decision was taken due to a popular clamour by many members who had travelled out of the country for various reasons.
Sources close to the leadership of the House confirmed Monday that the decision would soon be made public.
Issues that are likely to engage the House upon resumption include the implementation of the 2012 budget.
Members of the House had at their last plenary session before commencement of their vacation last July,  made it clear that unless the 2012 budget was implemented as passed by the National Assembly, President Goodluck Jonathan could face impeachment.
The ceding of Bakassi  to the  Republic of Cameroon through the Green Tree Agreement which was signed by former President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2006 is likely going to also attract the attention of the House when members return from vacation.
Another issue which may get the attention of  members when they resume is  FG’s  lifting of the suspension earlier placed on Dana Airline’s licence after the crash of one of its aircrafts last June killing 153 on board.
The House is also likely to engage the CBN over its plan to introduce a new N5000 denomination.
Efforts made to get in touch with the Chairman of the House Committee on Media Hon. Zakari Mohammed were futile as his phone line was not functional at the time of writing this report.
