Jos — Another five people, including a policeman were killed early yesterday when gunmen attacked two villages in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The attack came just days after four people were gunned down at a drinking joint in neighbouring Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.
The gunmen were said to have laid an ambush for a police patrol team at Jwol opening fire and killing one of them, a corporal identified as Istifanus Samaila in the process.
The gunmen were reported to have retreated into the bush and later moved to Sopp village where they killed four people and injured another person.
The attackers also destroyed farmlands in the villages before escaping from the area following a resistance by some youths from the villages.
Spokesman of Plateau Police Command, Mr. Emmanuel Abuh, confirmed the incident, adding that the injured person was receiving treatment in a hospital in the state capital.
Meanwhile, the state police command said it had recorded success in curtailing criminal activities in the state.
