Nigerian Author, Teju Cole recently won this year’s Hemingway Foundation/PEN Award for a “distinguished” first book of fiction. Cole, 36, who received about $10,000 for his first book “Open City” was a favorite amongst readers of Nigerian newspaper, NEXT for his column, “Words follow me,” a weekly literary arts column.
His book, “Open City” got rave reviews around the world including one from the New York Times and another from the New Yorker.
The Hemingway award was founded in 1976 by Mary Hemingway, widow of the Nobel laureate.
