A security
official in Nigeria has said that a secret detention centre is being
opened to hold and interrogate suspected high-level members of the Boko
Haram Islamist sect, Associated Press reports.
According
to the AP, the official said that the prison was erected in Lagos to
enable different security agencies work together; since past efforts put
into stopping the sect has been continually hindered.
Officials of the secret service were said not to have denied the existence of such a prison on Thursday.
“Opening
such a prison worries human rights activists. The country’s military and
police have a documented history of torturing and even killing
detainees,” AP wrote.
